Move from Access into SQL

Training on the job, on-site, whilst achieving your goal of moving your current MS Access system into MS SQL Server.

If you want to move your existing NHS data tables from Access to SQL Server Avoca can help you achieve this whilst training you in using SQL Server. This way you can move all your data into SQL Server using a safe method and receive all the training you need to be self-sufficient in using the SQL server system going forward.

Plan and Design
Our trainer will show you how to design your new database schema in SQL Server. This may be as simple as moving all your tables in as they are or you may want to streamline your current design, for example making 2 tables into 1, removing duplicate information, or cleaning some poor data quality. You will produce ERDs together to show the structure you are aiming towards and a plan showing any additional objectives you want to achieve.

Import Data
You will then import your tables into SQL Server from Access. There are a few different ways of doing this and our trainer will agree one of these with you and then carry it out, showing you the steps to take so that you can try it yourself.

Test
It’s important to test that the data has gone where you wanted it to, and that it is all there. Our trainer will show you how to do this reconciliation and get you started with some high level checks.

Validate

Once the data is in SQL Server, our consultants will work with you in ensuring that the data has been imported correctly by running checks on the data.

Future benefit and updates
Our trainer will show and advise you on the tools available in SQL to get the most out of the software and on how you can keep your data clean and up to date. Other benefits inculde:

• No days off work required
