Migration Strategy
All good implementation projects will have
a deliverable called “data migration strategy”
from which a
plan would then follow. Too often however the strategy is
written at too high a level and makes sweeping statements
such as "all data will be migrated". This target maybe
achievable but at what cost and at what risk? A well thought
out strategy that makes sound recommendations is key to a
project going live on time and to budget.
We can help achieve this by preparing a migration strategy to
meet your specific business requirements. This would be a
detailed deliverable, with recommendations, that would cover
the following areas:
• how to assess data quality
• a recommended clean and transform
process to suit the project
• how to test the migration process
• breadth and depth of data to be
migrated
• multiple legacy system
implications
• data extraction considerations
• timings and resource requirements
• cutover considerations
• duplicate patient considerations
• numbering strategy considerations
• change management of the target
system
• phased implementation
considerations,
• dealing with ongoing daily
changes to the legacy system
• migrating outpatients and wait
lists to ensure business and reporting continuity
• non migrated data consideration
The recommendations from the strategy can then be agreed by senior management and used to shape the implementation plan.
