Avoca Pathway Analyser

Challenge — How to increase
funding for the care you provide?
The need for NHS originations to integrate multiple sources
accurately is ever increasing.
Data inputs include:
PAS - or equivalent data system(s)
which store patient journey activity records
PbR guidance - such as best practice tariff
National / Local / Block tariffs
Costing - Avoca will take extracts from your local costing
system
Service
line agreements - local payment agreements between the
commissioning healthcare organisation and provider
This data has to be consolidated and analysed correctly to
ensure that your organisation’s income is maximised. Avoca
can help ensure the accuracy of this data and then look for
revenue improvement opportunities using the Avoca Pathway
Analyser.
Consolidating this data is a complex task. The data
has been historically stored in disparate silos which reduce
the chance of integral links being present and increase the
chance of repeating and inconsistent data.
Once consolidated the analysis of data has to be precise and
give the organisation clear actions to put into practice and
produce tangible benefits.
Solution — Avoca Pathway
Analyser consolidates all your data and suggests revenue
improvement opportunities
Avoca have vast experience of taking data sources from a
broad range of systems and consolidating them into a stable
and integral central location. Our processes overcome:
Broken pathways – using our
extensive NHS experience Avoca will join together broken
patient pathways using a mixture of database schema analysis
and fuzzy logic matching.
Duplicate patients – Avoca have an
incomparable pedigree in identifying and resolving patient
duplicates across multiple systems. Used in all the largest
NHS data migration projects, the Avoca de-duper technology
resolves duplicates across all source systems.
Once the data is consolidated and integral Avoca’s
experienced data and business NHS analysts will use the
latest InterSystems Caché and
DeepSee technology to produce the
report on revenue improvements opportunities. For example:
Best Practice Pathways
– By not following the best practice pathways your
Trust could be incurring costs for treatment which will not
be reimbursed. Avoca’s PBR pathway analyser will show the
best practice pathways which are and aren’t being followed,
and provide detail as to why. We will then work with you to
recommend practice and workflow changes to address the issue.
Business Case — a no
financial risk solution
The cost of Avoca’s software and services are offered at no
financial risk to the Trust, we would work together to an
agreed benefit sharing plan.
Case Study — Save your
Trust over £1 million pounds?
Avoca took the data extract from a McKesson PAS for a large
UK Acute Trust, covering the last two financial years. Having
consolidated the data using schema and data analysis into an
integral form the data was loaded into Avoca Pathway Analyser
software for further scrutiny. The results showed the trust
had carried out over 1 million pounds of treatment which
couldn’t be reimbursed.
One treatment had 2,109 patient pathways since April 2010, 1,762 of these Patient Pathways did not follow the best practice PbR guidance. The pathways which did not follow best practice contained 8,309 additional outpatient attendances for which they received no reimbursement, costing the Trust an additional £540,000.
Avoca have highlighted the opportunities to address this at
the Trust and are now in process of agreeing the benefit
realisation plan.
Proof of
concept
Provide us with the data inputs required and we will produce
a report showing the missed revenue opportunities for one
best practice pathway at no commitment or cost.
