NHS Reporting
Our experience in reporting systems has been gained from the many projects we have worked on where Trusts have deployed new core systems. The nature of these projects can mean great disruption and major re-design of reporting solutions.
If you are moving to a new reporting system, having trouble with your current one or need support in warehouse interfaces and integration, the sections below describe our experience and how we can help.

New Reporting System
Reporting in the NHS is a key operational issue. When deploying new core systems in the NHS, there is always a high risk of disrupting your reporting capability, when one of the key objectives should be to maintain and even enhance your reporting capabilities. Even so this area can sometimes be overlooked by systems suppliers.

Our Health Informatics specialists can help you to ensure that this does not happen and are ready to help in a number of different ways, including:

• Developing a reporting strategy
• Validating CDS extracts
• Validating extracts from third party systems (for example IM200)
• Designing & building data warehouses
• Data extraction
• Bespoke programming support
• Developing end to end test plans for reporting
• Investigate and document anomalies
• Providing issue management
• Working with suppliers to identify fixes
• Managing issue lists
• Distributing and maintaining progress and tracking documents
• Client interaction with warehouse suppliers, system suppliers, work stream managers
• Liaising with product specialists on validation criteria and work flow testing

Reporting Triage and Resolution
NHS reporting problems are easy to spot but finding the root of the problem can be very difficult. Avoca have a set process for working through the different scenarios where the issue may have occurred to find the root of the problem. We will then support you in the implementation of a solution to the cause of these problems, so that it does not happen again, as well as fixing the resulting error. Prevention is better than cure when dealing with reporting issues. To carry out this method of investigation requires the following varied skill set, which the Avoca team can provide:

• Relational database systems knowledge
• Understanding of different types of healthcare datasets
• How the patient journey flows and where key data items of the journey are captured
• NHS Reporting and Data Dictionary standards
• Integration and data analysis

Warehouse Interfaces and Integration
Trusts often need to link their PAS system to a separate warehouse to fulfil their reporting goals, as the PAS system cannot take in feeds from the other healthcare systems which are required for a number of reports. Sourcing extracts from different systems can cause format compatibility and data quality issues. Most companies only offer a solution to the first of these problems and leave the data quality for the Trust to solve, or suffer. Avoca take care of both. Some common challenges and Avoca’s solution to these are listed below:

Extract Extracts from healthcare systems being of required format and quality to load into the Data Warehouse. Resolved through Avoca’s knowledge of data integration and validation.
Transform Transformation of the extract from Cerner to make it compatible with the warehouse. Resolved through Avoca’s knowledge of mapping and data cleansing.
Load Reconciliation of loaded files into the warehouse to ensure data quality and quantity are maintained.
Data Integration Data from separate systems not being integral with loaded data and data from separate systems holding duplicate information.
